There’s something special about seniors who choose to mark a milestone with a destination session—and Talia’s was exactly that. She and her family traveled from Denver to Calgary for Stampede, and while they were here, she asked for senior portraits in the Alberta Rockies. The answer was an easy yes.
A Calgary Connection Meets a Rocky Mountain Backdrop
A hometown connection that came full circle Calgary is a big small town. Talia’s step-mom and I actually went to the same junior high—she was a couple years behind me and I never actually knew her, but mutual friend recommended me, and her dad reached out. I helped recommend some great spots and very quicly we were planning a cross-border moment: a Denver grad, a Calgary photographer, and the Canadian Rockies as our backdrop.
Best Locations for Senior Photos in Canmore
Quarry Lake – Calm Water, Iconic Peaks
The locations: Quarry Lake and the historic Engine Bridge We started at Quarry Lake in Canmore, where the mountains open up and the water sits calm—a perfect canvas for clean, timeless portraits. Talia looked stunning against the alpine palette: soft greens, slate blues, and those unmistakable peaks.

The Historic Engine Bridge – Lines, Texture, and Movement
From there, we moved to the historic Engine Bridge. The lines, the texture, the way the light cuts through—it's a dream spot for seniors. We leaned into movement and personality: walk-ups, spins, easy laughter, and a few quiet moments that let the scenery and confidence share the frame.

Perfect Timing, Mountain Weather
Perfect timing—right down to the last frame Just as we wrapped, the skies opened up. Rain. Perfect timing for a dramatic exhale and a sign that we’d captured what we came for. The day was perfect: stunning scenery, a beautiful senior, and a family that made the trip feel meaningful from start to finish.
A Zoom Reveal Filled with Favorites
For the gallery reveal, we met over Zoom. Talia and her mom were GUSHING over the photos and had a hard time narrowing down their favorites—always a good sign. Together, we curated a set that balances close-up portraits, full-body movement, and environmental frames for albums, wall art, and announcements.
Talia, thank you for trusting me with your senior portraits. To your family—thanks for making the journey and for bringing such warmth and ease to the day. I can’t wait for you to relive this session for years to come.
Why Choose the Rockies for Your Senior Portraits?
They feel personal: A place you’ll remember, captured at a moment you’ll never repeat.
They mix elegance with adventure: Mountain light, natural textures, and room to move.
They create heirlooms: Images that look incredible on walls and in albums—not just on a phone.
